Sociological research on Islamic finance in Russia
The department of Economic programs of the Russian Mufties Council jointly with independent experts in the field of Islamic economy and finance, who participate in the Working group on Islamic financial products and services, developed and launched a sociological study on Islamic financial principles among Russian population.
The aim is to identify the potential level of demand in Russia for products and services of Islamic financial and economic institutes.
The Survey is carried out within the Russian Federation, and respondents can fill in a form online or manually handing back it to the coordinators of the survey in their region. The survey is conducted both among Russian Muslims and Non-Muslims, who are also potential costumers of Islamic financial products.
Among the main objectives of the study are:
- To identify the demand for Islamic financial and economic services/ interest to Islamic way of doing business;
- To identify the level of awareness of Islamic financial and economic system and methods of doing business;
- To identify factors, which influence how much respondents are ready to get involved in the sphere of Islamic financial and economic activities and business;
- To form an idea of the Islamic economic model and ways of doing business among respondents.
The subjects of the study:
- Ethical and legal foundations of financial and economic activities in Islam;
- Islamic banking;
- Islamic insurance;
- Sukuk bonds;
- Zakat and Charity.
The sociological survey let reveal the following questions:
- What is the potential demand for the products of Islamic financial institutions in Russia?
- What Islamic financial products are most in demand?
- What factors influence the decision to invest in Islamic financial institutions?
- What percentage of Muslims in Russia does one of the main religious duties - Zakat?
- and other questions.
